Harness/WingsA stainless or aluminum back plate with two-inch, continuous webbing and a crotch strap is the most popular harness system among both cave and tech divers. Soft harnesses like the Dive Rite Transpac and Transplate can work, too. What’s important is that the harness holds the weight of doubles securely and enables you to waist mount your canister light and position the shoulder and waist D-rings wherever they need to go.
A 50- to 55-lb wing is usually more than adequate. You do not need dual bladders in caves (although you might want them if diving steel doubles in the ocean). Avoid overly-long large-diameter inflation hoses and shoulder-mounted remote exhausts. Wings with bungies that wrap all the way around the outside (“bondage” wings) will get plenty of laughs. Trust us.
